I picked up and read nearly cover-to-cover was Rod
Heikell's piloting guide to the East Aegean. It didn't
help his cause that Heikell's books are also particularly
good and entertaining, on top of being full of the sort
of confident navigational information and local
knowledge that escorts the sailor in unfamiliar waters
for a brief amount of time and wanting to maximize the
